Description
By 4WD Vehicles, departing from Chiang Mai city or Lampang city and drive up North
in one of the most scenery drives in Thailand through mountainous ranges. About an hour
drive from Lampang city, first stop at the Tham Phar Thai (Phar Thai Cave), is originated
from a limestone mountain. The cave goes underground more than one kilometer from
its entrance. It has beautiful stalagmites and stalactites along the walking paths. Some of
the cave’s passages are filled with ashes from a volcanic eruption dated more than 9 million
years ago. The off road adventure continues as the vehicles head towards Lom Phu Keaw, a
hilltop basin shaped like a volcanic vent. At its center is a deep, green and crystal clear pond
swarming with fish. The surrounding evergreen forest is teeming with wildlife and provides
the perfect setting for a picnic lunch. A further 20 minutes down a beaten track will take you
to Mae Kae Waterfall, a small sized, but no less spectacular jungle waterfall, in the Ngao
district. Picnic Lunch. Back on the road towards Phayao’s beautiful Kwan Phayao Lake. A
relaxing dinner looking out at the spectacular semi manmade lake is one of the best spots in
Thailand to take in the sun set. As the fourth largest fresh water habitat in Thailand, this
area is home to a plethora of fish, plant and bird species. Guests can either choose to spend
the night in Phayao, or drive a further hour and a half to Chiang Rai for the night.
