Departing from Chiang Mai city or Lampang city and drive up North in one of
the most scenery drives in Thailand through mountainous ranges. About an hour drive from
Lampang city, is our first stop at the Tham Phar Thai (Phar Thai Cave). Tham Phar Thai
is originated from a limestone mountain. The cave goes underground more than one
kilometer from its entrance. It has beautiful stalagmites and stalactites along the walking
paths. Some of the cave’s passages are filled with ashes from a volcanic eruption dated
more than 9 million years ago. Continued on the highway for just about an hour to reach
the Phayao province. Set for Lunch at local restaurant on Kwan Phayao (Phayao Lake)
- a semi-natural freshwater lake which covers the area of 20.5 Square Kilometers.
It is a popular attraction of the Phayao province and the largest freshwater habitat in
the North of Thailand (4th largest in the country). This is the area where the Nam Mae Ing
(Ing River) is mixed with the lake and empties into the Mekong passing though the Name
Mae Lag (Lag River). It is also a home to 36 different varieties of aquatic plants, 48 species
of fish and 47 species of birds. After lunch, rev up to a local pier to catch a local long-tailed
boat to visit WatTilok Aram, the 500 Years Old Underwater Temple. The temple is located in
the island centered of Kwan Phayao. According to a stone inscription, the king of Chiang
Mai (King Tilokkarad) commanded to Chao San Hua (King of Phayao) to establish this temple
